Fan Fiction

  • My Profile on fanfiction.net - While working on “What’s Left Unsaid” I also started to write and submit stories on a fan fiction site for one of my favorite authors, Janet Evanovich. My profile (under the name MagdalynC) includes links to all the stories I’ve written and posted there as well as some of my favorite stories by other JE fanfic authors.
  • Wherein Jane Offends Authors Against Fan Fiction - An interesting and amusing article about fan fiction and how some authors view it.  It also mentions authors who wrote fan fiction prior to being published!

Articles

  • Novel Sex-  An article I found outlining The Good, The Bad and The Ugly of romance novel sex. Hey!  Sex isn’t easy to write.  I had to do research!
  • The Art of Writing Sex- This is an article I found most helpful.  If you are an aspiring author, or an author who breaks into a cold sweat writing love scenes, there are some great tips to be found here to get you more comfortable.

Music/Video

Music often inspires me to write or gets me in whatever mood I need to be in when writing. Here are some of my faves!

  • Least Complicated - This has always been one of my favorite Indigo Girls songs. Although it didn’t necessarily inspire me to write “What’s Left Unsaid,” I just realized that the lyrics and story fit pretty well with it. While searching for the song, I ran across an AMV (Anime Music Video) interpretation that uses clips from 5 Centimeters Per Second, a Japanese animated feature film by Makoto Shinkai. The AMV was done by YouTube user Ruisdaelhopper.  The ‘story’ from this feature film also has similarities to my story as you can see in this video. Hope you like it!

  • Dashboard Confessional is another favorite band of mine.  Both the songs ‘Stolen’ and ‘Don’t Wait’ helped put me in the mind of my male lead, and also seem to fit the concept of the story.  Below is a duet version of the song ’Stolen’ performed by Dashboard Confessional and the singer from German rockband Juli. Video provided by Eduardlink87 and found on YouTube.
